KAIDATA partners with GAMACY™ on video game data infrastructure
KAIDATA Consulting Group is working with GAMACY™ — The Video Game Data Company — to provide the data engineering behind its video game preservation efforts. We take on this kind of work because it's the "unglamorous" half of AI readiness. Most organizations arrive with a model in mind and a data estate that cannot support it. GAMACY™ arrived with the opposite problem, and it is a better one to have!
The Hard Part is the Source Material — Not the Model
Most enterprise data was born digital. It has a schema, a system of record, and an owner you can go and ask. Video game history has almost none of that.
Primary sources are physical materials: boxes, discs, cartridges, manuals, inserts. And much of it predates any standard for describing itself. Furthermore, editions differ by region, print run, and sometimes by nothing that has been publicly documented outside of obscure collector forums. Two copies of the same title can carry different identifiers, and the artifact itself is the only authority on which is correct.
But GAMACY's exclusive VGAMI™ archive captures these materials directly, rather than aggregating it from elsewhere. That decision is what makes the dataset highly defensible—and it is also what makes the engineering difficult. There is no upstream system to reconcile against. The record has to be built from what is physically on the object.
Provenance is an Engineering Requirement — Not a Compliance Afterthought
Organizations buying data for AI training are now asking questions they were not asking two years ago. Where did this come from? Who holds the rights? Can you show the chain?
A dataset that cannot answer those questions is a liability, regardless of how large it is, and scale does not rescue it. And more records with unclear origin is simply means more exposure. All of this needs to be designed into data pipelines from the first ingest, because provenance cannot be reconstructed after-the-fact. And if the system did not record where a value came from at the moment it was captured, that information is gone (and potentially made useless).
And this is the part of the work that carries forward to every company preparing their organization for AI transformation. These same data disciplines apply to everyone, whether your data sources are a 1994 video game manual or thirty years operational client records!
We Specialize in AI Readiness and Transformation
KAIDATA's work is strategic AI readiness that spans software development, data engineering, analytics and solution delivery. We help organizations prepare to use AI seriously. The AI sector is changing constantly; but the underlying approach does not. Data that was never properly structured is not ready for use in AI, and origins must be clearly intact and demonstrable.
Great AI begins with great data. And our partners at GAMACY™ clearly understood this before the engagement started, which is why we are proud to be working with them.
